Bad politics

In addition to being ill-thought out and seemingly purpose-designed to break the electoral system, Labour's proposals to "improve" MMP by making it less proportional are just bad politics. The referendum was a gift to them: a chance to engage in principled and popular opposition to an attempt by the government to undermine our democracy. And they've squandered that gift, in the process alienating both core activists and potential swing voters. Not to mention giving National more space to push for their less democratic alternative. Way to go, guys.

But I forget: Labour is a large party, which never really liked MMP in the first place. And clearly they haven't changed.
