Fiji: the other shoe drops

In the wake of yesterday's landmark ruling from the Fijian Court of Appeal declaring the coup illegal, I was hopeful that Fiji had finally found a way out of its mess. And the initial indications that Commodore Bainimarama had accepted the decision and was returning to barracks gave me more hope. Now that hope has been crushed. President Iloilo is addressing the nation at the moment, and he has just announced that he is abrogating the 1997 Constitution and revoking all judicial appointments. So, any pretence at lawful rule is now completely ended.

I'll have more as I learn it.
